Last week, the North Slope Borough School District Director of Curriculum & Instruction, Michele Brown, spent three days visiting Point Hope to meet and support teachers as they prepared for the 2026-2027 school year. Director Brown visited each classroom, meeting with each teacher, to ensure teachers have all of the materials needed for this school year. In one case, when something was needed, Director Brown managed to get the needed material put on a plane heading to Point Hope from Utqiagvik on the same day it was requested. Director Brown was highly impressed with the quality and readiness of returning and new teachers to Tikigaq School, calling our school, students, and community quite fortunate. The reputation of Point Hope students being kind and welcoming to their teachers is spreading as this inspires their hard work and preparation for the school year.
Director Brown was thrilled to visit and explore the old village site with its sod houses as well as drive along the seven-mile road. More than anything, seeing so many whale bones on display made her recognize what everyone village resident already knew, the best whalers in the world are from Point Hope!

Greetings Point Hope Community:
This is a non-school sponsored post at the behest of some of the teachers.
Some of our new teachers are amazed at how beautiful Point Hope is AND wish to go exploring on four-wheelers. If there are any residents willing to rent out their four-wheelers to teachers, please reach out Lily in the office with your name and number.
The rental of four-wheelers will be a private matter paid for privately by the teachers and is in no way connected to the NSBSD, including Tikigaq School.
